The Price of Tutoring

The cost of individual STS tutoring is $4.50 per hour of tutoring. Students wanting tutoring are to purchase a tutor ticket at the cashier's window in Griz Central. The pink copy of the ticket is given to the tutor. Money is NEVER exchanged between the tutor and the tutee.

There are several programs that pay for tutoring for students eligible for their programs. Examples of programs that fund tutoring are: TRIO Student Support Services, Athletics, and Veteran's Affairs. If you believe you might be eligible for one of the above-mentioned programs, please contact the program directly.

Tutor Acquisition

... Or How to Get a Tutor

Tutors are available for most 100 and 200 level courses at the cost of $4.50 per hour. To obtain a tutor, please complete the following steps.

1. Go to the STS Office in the Lommasson Center, room 276, and complete a "Tutor Request Form."

2. You will be given a list of tutors available through STS who are qualified to tutor the class you requested.

3. Contact one of the tutors on the list and schedule a tutoring appointment.

4. Purchase a "tutor ticket" at the cashier's window in Griz Central. Give the pink copy of the ticket to your tutor.

Become an STS Tutor

In order to apply to become a STS tutor, you must complete the application packet, which is available in the STS office (Lommasson Center 276) and meet the following criteria:
    • Be enrolled at UM for at least 6 credits.
    • Have a cumulative GPA or at least 3.0.
    • Earn an "A" or "B" in the course(s) you want to tutor.
    • Completed at least 15 university level credits.

The majority of tutors are hired at the beginning of each semester but STS continues to hire tutors throughout the school year on an as-needed basis. If you want to tutor a course that is already listed below as having a private tutor you can still apply. In many cases we only have one tutor for each class and we will need more as the semester continues.
